![]() A little about us George Congrave, in charge of the weighbridge, showed some of his photographs to lorry drivers calling in at the office. This provoked several discussions and friendly arguments and it was decided to hold a photographic competition. The library room at “ the Miners Welfare Centre”, Owen Street, Coalville was chosen and a pleasant evening was had by all. As a result of this small beginning, a decision was made to form the society. Len Heath was elected chairman, with Bill Foster as secretary. Arthur Cooper was in charge of the finances as treasurer. The society grew and continued to hold meetings at “the Miners Welfare Centre” until March 1985, when it was decided to move to “the Springboard Centre” as the future of “ the Miners Welfare Centre” was in doubt, with the closure of the local coal mines. Meetings were held fortnightly. This arrangement continues until the present. At the AGM in 1996, The society changed its name to “the Coalville & District Photographic Society” |
